Terlipressin is a synthetic analog of vasopressin which is used as a vasoactive drug in the management of hypotension. It acts as a prodrug, as it is converted to (Lys⁸)-vasopressin by removal of the N-terminal triglycine in vivo. This vasopressin analog has a longer duration of action and a better safety profile than the parent compound. Terlipressin has found application in the management of acute variceal hemorrhage (esophageal varices), hepatorenal syndrome, and norepinephrine-resistant septic shock.
