Secretogranin II (154-186) (Secretoneurin) is a neuropeptide generated in brain, adrenal medulla and other endocrine tissues by proteolytic processing of secretogranin II (chromogranin C). It enhances dopamine release in a concentration-dependent manner. A role in neuro-immunological processes has been proposed due to its capability to act as chemoattractant for eosinophils and monocytes. Significant changes of secretoneurin-like immunoreactivity occur in Alzheimer's disease, reflecting synaptic loss.
