Leuprolide, a highly active LHRH (GnRH) agonist stimulates the pituitary release of luteinizing hormone, causing an increase in testicular androgen production. Thus, leuprolide represents a safer alternative to estrogens, and may be preferred in the treatment of men with advanced prostate cancer.
