Scyliorhinin I (AKFDKFYGLM-amide), a peptide with tachykinin-like activity, has been isolated from the intestine of the common dogfish, Scyliorhinus caniculus. It shows high sequence homology with physalaemin and crossreacts with antisera directed against the C-terminal region of substance P. Scyliorhinin I possesses high affinity for NK₁ and NK₂ receptors, and a 50-250 times reduced affinity for NK₃ receptors.
