Details
The inhibitor E64c, which contains 3-methylbutylamine instead of agmatine, was found to react with the essential thiol groups of papain which led to a loss of activity. The compound corresponding to the acid of loxistatin (E64d) was also shown to inhibit cathepsins B and L more rapidly than E64.
