The tripeptide pEWG-amide found in plasma stimulates the uptake of serotonin into platelets. Increased amounts of pEWG-amide can be detected in the urine of autistic children. The urinary peptide, which is generated from the CNS glycoprotein reelin, has also been associated with depression and anxiety disorders.
