Katacalcin, a potent plasma calcium-lowering peptide, also called C-procalcitonin or PDN-21, flanks calcitonin on the C-terminal side within the human calcitonin precursor. Katacalcin specifically binds to the calcitonin receptor of CD14⁺ peripheral blood mononuclear cells.
