Details
A major metabolite of L-DOPA. Elevated concentrations of 3-MT in body fluids are indicators for a variety of brain and carcinoid tumors. N-Acetylation of 3-MT yields NAMDA, which in vitro inhibits GTP cyclohydrolase I, the rate-limiting enzyme for tetrahydrobiopterin biosynthesis. NAMDA also reduces nitrite accumulation, an oxidative metabolite of NO, without directly inhibiting NOS activity.
