Details

Phenserine, an analog of physostigmine, is a promising drug candidate for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease. It acts as a potent, long-acting, highly selective and slowly reversible inhibitor of acetylcholinesterase, thus reducing β-APP formation. As predicted by assays in mouse, it could restore the synaptic activity in brain and improve cognition in patients suffering from Alzheimer's disease. Phenserine shows optimal pharmacological properties.
