This octacosapeptide S-28 arises from the posttranslational cleavage of prosomatostatin, which in turn is derived from a larger precursor, preprosomatostatin. S-28 was first isolated from porcine duodenum. In guinea-pig pancreatic acini, S-28, unlike S-14, increased amylase secretion, cellular cyclic GMP, and Ca2+ outfluxes.
