Neuropeptide S
Neuropeptide S (NPS) is a modulator of arousal and possibly anxiety-related behaviour. It acts by activating its cognate receptor (NPSR) and inducing mobilization of intracellular Ca2+. Central administration of NPS induced wakefulness and reduced slow wave and REM sleep in rats. These peptides represent potential lead compounds for the treatment of sleep and anxiety disorders.
