Mast Cell Degranulating (MCD) Peptides
The linear low-molecular-weight peptides HR-1 and HR-2, which have been isolated from the venom of the giant hornet Vespa orientalis, differ structurally from the MCD peptide from honeybee venom but possess similar biological effects. It was found that these peptides are capable of degranulating rat mast cells, thereby initiating histamine release.
