Antitumor Phospholipids
1-O-Octadecyl-2-O-methyl-rac-glycero-3-phosphorylcholine (O-1415) and octadecylphosphorylcholine (O-1545) are efficient anticancer agents. However, as the choline derivatives are rather toxic, homologs have been synthesized in which the nitrogen atom of choline has been exchanged for a phosphorus atom. The resulting compounds were less toxic and retained the cytotoxic activity.
