α,ω-Diaminoalkanes (mono-protected)

Mono-protected alkylene diamines are important homobifunctional compounds often used as spacer groups (especially hexamethylenediamine), e.g. for the immobilization of peptides. Additionally they are very useful building blocks for preparing polyamines and polyamides.
1,5-Diaminopentane (cadaverine) is the decarboxylation product of lysine, ornithine yields 1,4-diaminobutane (putrescine).
